Judging Process
PROGRAMMING
Round One
For each demographic category, Kidscreen will assemble a first-round panel of mid-level programming execs and respected kids producers who aren't currently attached to a particular studio. (All jurors will either be currently working in the demographic they're judging, or will have a lot of past work experience targeting that demo.) They will assess all of the entries we receive in their respective demographic category on a scorecard against a provided set of criteria. Based on cumulative scores, the three top-scoring programs in each award category will make it onto a shortlist.
Round Two
A second panel of demographic category judges, comprised of senior-level programming execs, will take a fresh look at the shortlisted programs using the same scorecard and criteria. Their scores will determine a winner for each award category.
Best in Class
The scores given by both judging panels will be totaled and converted into a percentage grade. The entry with the highest percentage grade in each demographic category will be a Best in Class winner. (Best Podcast entries are excluded.)
Best Inclusivity
The winners of these awards will be selected by a special jury of kids media executives in diversity-focused roles and/or with a background in inclusive content. Entries will be assessed based on their balanced representation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), LGBTQ+ and disabled characters in a positive and non-stereotypical way. Judges will also take into consideration efforts made behind the scenes to ensure the production involved the diverse voices and communities portrayed on screen.
All winners will be announced live at an awards ceremony to be held during Kidscreen Summit 2025 (February 9-12, San Diego).
