It’s the Middle Ages and Max, a 10-year-old girl, is determined to become a knight, even though the rules of her time make it clear that girls can’t be knights. She’s a modern girl living in a not-so-modern world and instead of conforming to what society expects of her, Max is going to challenge the status quo, fight for how things should be, and encourage and inspire everyone around her to do the same. Max teams up with her friends: Loyal BFF and dragon-whisperer SIMON; eternal optimist and wizard-in-training MILLIE; and clever bookworm KEVYN. Together, they become The Midknights, and each episode follows this ragtag group on their quest to help the people of Byjovia, save the kingdom from the treacherous King Gastley, and return the rightful king to the throne.
Not only will Max & the Midknights face off with sword-wielding zombies, tangle with an evil sorceress, and tame a fire-breathing dragon, they’ll also be having fun, supporting each other, and pushing each other to be braver and bolder versions of themselves. Together, they will hone their individual skills, buck society’s expectations of them, and realize they’re more than friends, they’re family.
Ultimately, each character is on a journey to find their own power, strengths, and purpose. And what they all realize is, they were looking for things they already possessed. Max will learn that she’s had the courage, wisdom, and strength to be a hero (and a knight) all along. Simon will learn that his gentleness is actually his greatest strength. Millie will discover, grow, and hone her magical powers as a wizard. And Kevyn will realize that while he may not
be that great at wielding a sword, he is great at wielding something even stronger — knowledge.
Episode synopsis:
Unsatisfied with the troubadour lifestyle, 10-year-old Max dreams of becoming a knight. After a run-in with a thief, Max and Uncle Budrick travel to Byjovia, Budrick’s hometown, but when they arrive, it is not as Uncle Budrick remembers it. In Byjovia, they meet Kevyn and learn that King Conrad disappeared and King Gastley, King Conrad’s younger brother, took the throne and instituted strict and ridiculous rules. Their conversation is interrupted when
Max sees two orphans being chased by King Gastley’s Royal Guards. Seeing two people in trouble, Max stands up to King Gastley and his guards, saving the two orphans—Millie and Simon. However, Max’s decision puts her in danger when King Gastley sentences her to
death. Therefore, Uncle Budrick sacrifices himself to save Max and is taken by King Gastley to be the Royal Jester. Max is forced to run away with Kevyn, Simon, and Millie so that she can live to fight and save Uncle Budrick another day.
