CBC Kids News
Canada
This is not your parent’s news. CBC Kids News is an award winning digital news service, committed to excellence in journalism, adherence to the CBC’s respected journalistic standards and practices, but with a twist … this is news for kids, by kids.
As the primary destination for CBC Kids News, cbckidsnews.ca is a daily feed of visual journalism for kids, aged 9 - 13. At the heart of everything we do is our team of kid contributors who allow us to cover news from a unique and authentic point of view, reporting the stories and events that Canadian kids want to tell and learn more about.
The website is vibrant, inclusive, and fun. The news feed is published daily and consists of engaging and interactive formats including articles, photo galleries, polls, maps, quizzes and video.
Our committed adult editorial, product and design teams intentionally involve kids in everything they do to ensure how and what we cover are the stories that matter most to Canadian kids. The KN Insiders (a volunteer group of kids that fill out weekly surveys providing feedback on things like site features and story selection), along with frequent focus tests and open dialogue with the kid contributors on our team, are the key to making CBC Kids News a trusted and authentic voice for tweens.
Over the last year we have solicited and listened to audience feedback leading to the launch of new features on the website including a toggle on/toggle off dark mode function, and adjustments to the design and layout, making the site more scannable for young users. More new functionality includes a print function and an accessible button that connects each story to Google Classroom - two features requested by teachers.
CBC Kids News is a service unlike any other in Canada. If there’s a story that Canadian kids are talking about at school, online or at the dinner table, you’re sure to find a uniquely authentic breakdown of those stories at cbckidsnews.ca. CBC Kids News - real kids, real news.
